THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

This Gilded, horror-filled board room is haunted by a mysterious and threatening group of characters in the background. The skeletal chairman of the board observes the board members transacting business. These directors are from James Ensor’s “The Intrigue,” 1890, and are the elite rulers. At the top of the frame surround are five symbolic masks, referring to James Ensor’s exquisite use of carnival masks in his paintings and prints.
