JONAH AND THE WHALE
In this mystical Bible scene, the sailors of an unseen ship have just tossed Jonah into the violent, raging water, which immediately grew calm thereafter. The whale is not seen, but terrified Jonah sees it moments before he’s swallowed.
I incorporated parts of the top and bottom portions of Albert Pinkham Ryder’s “Jonah,” 1885–1895, into this piece. The attached nine-prong, barbed steel fishing fork will prove ineffective in preventing the whale from fulfilling his biblical mission.
