PAINTINGS
Maybe this title should say “mixed media artwork” instead of paintings because I use more than just paint on canvas. Each piece is labor-intense and usually starts with a black and white photo / copy / sketch / drawing and color study. They’re enlarged by inkjet and mounted on an archival “cradled panel” support for finishing.
I incorporate art historical references, collage elements, acrylic paint, watercolor pencil, graphite, marking pen, airbrush, 3-D objects, and each one always has many layers of color-tinted acrylic glazes for a “juicy” surface. I use the chiaroscuro technique of light and dark elements to add extra volume and drama to the image.
Finally, my outer frame constructions, or “Neo-Period-Surrounds”, that I design, fabricate, and finish for each piece, originate from my love of sculpture, art history, and museum experiences.
