URIZEN
William Blake’s “The Ancient of Days,” 1794, shows the bearded Urizen enclosed in an all-seeing orb surrounded by astronomical symbols. He is a misguided creator whose purpose is flawed, and his world is broken by closing humanity‘s eyes to infinity and locking us in reality and law.
Flowing down the slope, the world’s vision of kindness, sympathy, compassion, mercy, charity, love, and more is in danger of losing sight. The red vertical bar, reading from top to bottom, are six Egyptian hieroglyphic symbols or letters that spell Urizen.
